Mended futures for every family.

Sometimes people just need someone safe to talk to.

Five18 offers family counseling in Lynchburg, VA and the surrounding communities.

At FIVE18 Counseling, we know life is messy, and sometimes people just need someone safe to talk to. We’re here to listen, because everyone’s story should be heard. FIVE18 Counseling exists to empower children, teens, adults, and families to walk on the path toward healing and grow stronger both mentally and spiritually.

In Office & Virtual Counseling

FIVE18 Counseling’s outpatient services, formally known as “Hope for Tomorrow Counseling”, was started in 2007 with the purpose of providing quality counseling that would promote hope and healing though the various difficulties that life brings. What originally started in Lynchburg, Virginia (Wyndhurst Office) has expanded to other locations across Central and South Virginia including Downtown Lynchburg, Bedford, Altavista, Appomattox, South Boston, Danville, and Brookneal.

We provide individual counseling, couples/marriage counseling, and family counseling both in office and virtually (telehealth). Our clinicians see clients ranging in various ages and presenting problems. While our team varies in therapeutic approaches, all of our clinicians are trained in trauma-informed care practices.

We accept a variety of commercial insurances, Medicaid, Medicare, and self-pay. Fee assistance is available if a client is struggling financially. No one is turned away due to the inability to pay.

School-Based Counseling

School-based services provide year-round mental health counseling and resources to students and their families in the school setting. Our trauma-informed counselors help students address and cope with a variety of concerns while eliminating barriers to services such as the following: transportation, missing too much school time, limited counselor availability during after school hours, financial barriers, etc. We meet students where they are to address their mental health needs.

Our school-based counseling services are currently offered in Appomattox County Public Schools.

Marriage & Relationship Education

FIVE18 Counseling’s Marriage Counseling and Relationship Education, formally “Compass Marriage & Relationship Services”, provides services for:

  1. Youth and Singles: We teach healthy relationship skills and how to make wise choices in dating, friendships, and marriage.

  2. Engaged Couples: Learn to set realistic expectations about marriage and learn relationship skills and concepts that will increase your chances of success. Our facilitators use the Prepare-Enrich premarital education curriculum. We have trained Prepare-Enrich facilitators and trainers who invest in young couples and in training others to minister.

  3. Married Couples: We offer marriage education services to learn to develop healthy attitudes and practical skills in communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving, along with tips for marriage enrichment. We provide a myriad of presentations from conferences, retreats, and date nights; working with churches and organizations to provide high-quality marriage education resources.

  4. Clergy, churches, professionals, and organizations: Training churches, pastors, lay mentors, counselors, social workers, and community groups to enhance their own marriage ministry by teaching them new ways to help couples build strong marriages. We also certify facilitators in Prepare-Enrich. We collaborate with organizations to provide conferences, in-service and on-site training, webinars, workshops, and produce events that are custom-tailored to their specific needs.
